The Band Council is a group of students consisting of the positions listed below who’s primary purpose is to promote the success of the Portsmouth Band Program.  The Band Council will meet once a month during the school year to discuss items pertaining to the PHS Band.  It will be the responsibility for all of the Band Council to plan events and team building activities in which the band can participate as well as to uphold the ideals of the band

Band Council 2010

Band President:  Ryan O'Connor

Vice-President:  Liz White

Secretary:  Mia Hall

Librarians: Laura Corvese, Jenn Drake, Kayla Kemper

Drum Majors:  Lauren Binger, Brianna Lee, Joey Maiato

Work Crew Chief:  Jacob Ricci


Band President – Symphonic band (1)

President is responsible for presiding over all meetings of the Band Council and will be required to keep meetings on track and bring up topics of discussion.  He/She will be in charge of scheduling events and communicating with the Concert Band as well as overseeing all other band council positions.  Primary functions are:

1.     Responsible for holding all band’s standards and holding each member of band council to their individual responsibilities.

2.     Acting liaison between students and directors

3.     Being the role model for maintaining Discipline and Excellence throughout the band program.

4.     Collect any forms/money during band class:  Medical Forms, Permission Slips

(This will be assisted by Band Vice-President)

5.      Work with Vice-President on attendance at Music Booster Meetings

 

Vice-President  - Symphonic Band (1) & Concert Band (1)

Responsible for assisting the Band President.  He/She is responsible for making sure all information distributed to the band gets to every person.  Everything from fund-raisers to meetings to rehearsal changes or any other information must be distributed to all band members.  Primary functions are:

1.     Liaison between grade level and Band President.

2.     Communicate standards and information to responsible grade level.

3.     This person is responsible for keeping track of all photos taken during events and collecting them from other students.

4.     Work WITH Band President on collection of forms/money

5.     Keep all band council members informed and involved.  Making sure band council and band members receive information discussed at Band Council meetings.

6.     Work with President on attendance at Music Booster Meetings.

 

Secretary – Symphonic Band (1)

This person is required to take minutes at Band Council meetings.  This person also manages and takes daily attendance during school and performances outside of school.  The secretary may choose another person to help with attendance.  This person is also responsible for maintaining an accurate and up-to-date list of all band and Color Guard members. 

 

Librarian(s) Symphonic Band (2)

The librarians are in charge of all aspects of the music library.  The main responsibility is to oversee the distribution of music to all band members.  They are to return all music to original score order and properly filed in cabinets.  Primary functions are:

1.     Organize the distribution and collection of music during class

2.     Organizing collection of music at end of year.

3.     Make sure that the parts to whatever piece we are about to pass out are in the correct amount and ready for distribution.

4.     Student may be asked to come to band room to help organize music if student has a learning center (at student’s convenience)

 

Drum Majors (3)

The Drum Majors serve on the Band Council as a floater position.  Their responsibilities will be to assist any other position with any help or assistance that is needed.  They will make sure the Work Crew has set up the proper equipment and is ready for rehearsal.  Primary functions are:

1.     Attend all band functions

2.     Responsible to the director for the conduct and actions of the band at all times.

3.     Take charge of the band in all types of situations

4.     Assist the director in maintaining discipline and order.

5.     Coordinates and supervises section leaders and is responsible for their effectiveness and actions.

 

Work Crew Chief (1)

This person will delegate and form a “work crew” whose responsibilities will be:

1.  Set-Up field equipment for rehearsals and games, including:  Podiums, Wireless Speaker, choral risers, and chairs for stage performances. 

2.  Oversee the organization of the storage room, making sure instruments are placed appropriately and organized.

3.  Work crew will be responsible for helping loading equipment on school trips for band events.
