SAMPLES and LOOPS are identical in many ways, yet functionally different in many ways.  Samples are often played once-they are more of a "one shot" tool'  Loops are constructed to be played over and over, while timing and the groove remain perfectly smooth.  There are special considerations when working with loops that will help you produce music that is powerful, thought provoking, and compelling.

     1.  SAMPLES
  • Modern samples are nothing more than digital recording.
  • Refers to the entirety of a certain digital recording.  For instance, a drum sample typically refers to a digital recording of a drum that has been hit once.

     2.  LOOPS
  • A loop is a repeating section of sound material.
  • Short sections of material can be repeated to create ostinato(repeated) patterns.
